A Welcome from Sister Comfort
“Welcome to SOAR! Here in Ghana, we see every day how small actions—picking up plastic, teaching a child, training a woman—can lead to transformation. SOAR is not just a recycling initiative. It is a movement of hope, justice, and faith in action. Whether you're a student, teacher, parish leader, or a friend from afar, I invite you to join us in caring for our shared home and lifting up those who are most in need. Together, we can make a difference.”
– Sister Comfort Arthur, CSC
Director, SOAR – Sisters Organizing and Advancing Recycling
Who We Are

SOAR is a grassroots ministry in Ghana led by the Sisters of the Holy Cross in collaboration with the Family of Holy Cross. We are committed to justice, peace, and care for creation, especially among those who are poor and marginalized.
The work of SOAR organizes communities around recycling, environmental education, and economic empowerment, especially for women and youth in underserved areas.
Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and the vision of Laudato Si’, we believe that caring for creation and standing with the vulnerable go hand in hand.

What We Do
♻️ Plastic Collection & Recycling
We reduce waste by collecting, sorting, shredding, and processing plastic that would otherwise pollute streets, rivers, and farmland.
👩🏽🔧 Women’s Employment & Skills Training
We provide job training and dignified employment for women, helping them become community leaders and environmental advocates.

📚 Environmental Education & Outreach
We teach children and youth about sustainability, stewardship, and practical ways to care for creation in daily life.
🕊️ Faith-Rooted Action for Justice
We connect care for the Earth with our Catholic faith, offering prayer, reflection, and action rooted in justice and hope.
Why Partner With SOAR
Transformative Education
Your school or parish can care for our planet through real stories, real impact, and global solidarity. SOAR offers resources and partnerships that make environmental justice both practical and personal.

Hands-On Learning for Students
We provide opportunities for students and parishioners to learn about recycling, sustainability, and Catholic social teaching in action, while seeing how faith and justice are connected globally.
Customized Recycling Support
SOAR provides bins, collection services, and consulting to help your school, parish, or organization launch or strengthen your recycling efforts. We’ll walk with you to:
1. Rally support from your community
2. Empower students and parishioners to lead
3. Build an action plan that connects education, stewardship, and service

Global Solidarity in Action

When you partner with SOAR, you’re not just supporting a project — you’re joining a movement that empowers women, serves the poor, and protects the planet. Your support directly contributes to job creation, clean communities, and a more sustainable future in Ghana and beyond.
How to Become a Partner
SOAR is here to walk with you — but every great partnership starts with a willing spirit and a shared commitment. If your school, parish, or organization is ready to take action for creation and community, SOAR can help you do the rest.
Here’s how to get started:
1. Call SOAR for an Introductory Meeting
We’ll learn about your goals and walk you through what a partnership with SOAR could look like.
2. Assess Your Readiness
Together, we’ll identify your capacity to collect recyclables, rally your community, and integrate care for creation into your daily life.
3. Create a Simple Action Plan
SOAR will help design a plan tailored to your context — from education to logistics. This might include:
-
-
Awareness campaigns
-
School or parish-wide recycling programs
-
Justice-centred formation for students or parish groups
-
4. Receive Your SOAR Start-Up Kit
We provide bins, signage, and support materials to help you begin strong.
5. Start Collecting and Making an Impact
As your community begins recycling, SOAR will pick up your plastics, provide ongoing support, and share updates on how your efforts are changing lives in Ghana.

More Than Recycling
At SOAR, recycling is just the beginning.
We believe that caring for our common home is inseparable from caring for our human family — especially those most often left behind. Every plastic bottle collected is part of a much larger story of justice, empowerment, and transformation.
Here’s what partnering with SOAR really means:
-
🌍 Environmental Stewardship
We keep plastic out of rivers, farms, and streets — protecting the land and water we all depend on.
-
👩🏾🔧 Women’s Empowerment & Job Creation We train and employ women from the local community, offering dignified work, steady income, and leadership opportunities. These women become environmental educators and change makers in their own neighbourhood.
-
📚 Community Education SOAR hosts workshops, school visits, and awareness events that teach children and adults how to reduce waste, recycle properly, and care for creation with faith and action.
-
🤝 Faith in Action Rooted in Catholic values and the vision of Laudato Si’, SOAR embodies what it means to hear “the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor” — responding with love, solidarity, and practical solutions.
When you support or partner with SOAR, you become part of a movement that restores dignity, builds community, and renews the Earth.
Join us — because recycling can do more than clean the planet. It can lift lives.
